Personal Device Acceptable Use Policy

Rules to Consider When Using Personal Devices At School

Devices are to be kept on the corner of the desk when in the classroom.

No device is to be used without the permission of the supervising staff member.

Personal devices are to be used for educational purposes and screens must be visible to the supervising staff member.

No student is permitted to access/communicate with others on Social Networking sites. I.E. Facebook, instagram, twitter etc…

No texting/phone calls are permitted between the hours of 8:35am and 3:35pm, while on school board property.

No pictures/videos are permitted to be taken by a student unless specifically directed by a staff member (school related activities).

If a device is used for ‘free time” all activities must be of a non-violent nature.

During instructional /classroom activity time, all use of personal devices must be directly associated with the assigned task.

If the Personal Device Acceptable Use Policy is not followed:

1st incident – Student will be asked to turn their device into the office for the remainder of that day. Student will be able to pick up their device at the end of the day.

2nd incident – Student will be asked to turn their device into the office for the remainder of the day. A parent/guardian will be informed of the incidents. The student will lose the privilege of having a personal device at school for 5 school days.

3rd incident – Student will be asked to turn their device into the office for the remainder of the day. A parent/guardian will be informed once more of the incidents. The student will lose the privilege of having a personal device at school for 10 school days.

4th incident – Student will be asked to turn their device into the office for the remainder of the day. A parent/guardian will be informed of this incident and that any further breach to our Personal Device Acceptable Use Policy will result in the student’s permission to have a personal device at school revoked permanently. The student will temporarily lose the privilege of having a personal device at school for 20 school days.

5th incident -Student will be asked to turn their device into the office for the remainder of the day. A parent/guardian will be informed of the incidents. The student will lose the privilege of having a personal device at school for the remainder of the year.
